THE CONTINUITY OF NATURENature is simple and pure, with a kind of invisible rule going on and on, pulling everything together. I represent this concept as a continuous thread. It's similar to a natural system or cycle, which connects the entire book and symbolizes natural processe, pattern, voice, and rhythm. VITALIZATIONNature is a powerful but inexplicable organizing force. With this understanding, I set out my exhibition to explore different natural and industrial manipulations on a page. Ultimately the question is what can be done to bring a new life to the pages and enhance and deepen the experience of the viewer/reader. LETTERFORMNATURERelating Adrian Frutiger’s personalities, historical backgrounds and the characteristics of his well-known typeface Univers to the form of nature. LIGATURE POETICSUsing the counter of ligature letterforms to express natural flows and organic rhythms from the concept of the sentence. REFLECTIONMimicking the reflection of the mirror by manipulating different orientations of the printing processes to create a physically overlapping composition that speaks to Liz’s art works. JACK DANIEL'SUsing all the elements from the label of Jack Daniel's to create organized compositions in exploring visual hierarchy and flow without losing the identical connection to the product. JANSON SPECIMEN SHEETBy highlighting the particular letterforms of Janson typeface, I emphasized the characteristics and historical backgrounds to show the formal identification of the font. EMOTIONBy incorporating gradient color and multiple textures to express how emotion can be affected from different perspectives. 2014 UIC MASTER OF DESIGN YEAR END PUBLICATIONDocumenting the progressions and ideas of Muhammad Rahman's thesis book and thesis project. The visual composition was based on his interests of occupying space. THE PROGRESSIONJuxtaposing bio-design book titles and page numbers with an article about ways of order from Georges Perec. Expressing evaporating movements of texts to create the organic experience of natural decay. Enlarging the book titles according to the page numbers in the sense of human exploitation.
